Overcoming Writer’s Block

Kaleb sent in this rather creative way to overcome writer’s block:

My parents were out of town and my sister was out of the house with friends, so I had the whole house to myself! After several hours of hard fought gaming, I had worn myself out, so I decided to go for a quick swim. I grabbed my towel, and put on my trunks (gross), and head for the pool. My backyard is surrounded by neighbors, but it was starting to get dark, so no one could see me. I get ready to go into the pool, but then I hear a voice.

“Hey Kaleb, what’s up?”

It was my best friend Jake. I completely forgot I invited him over tonight for some help on a story I was writing.

“I’m sorry dude, I completely forgot about you coming over! I’ll go change.” I told him.

“Actually, I would like a good swim! I’ve been working outside all day, and I’m over-heating!” he told me.

“Well that’s great!” I told him.

“The only thing is, I don’t have any trunks.” He looked at the ground.

“Yeah, and I don’t think I have any that would fit you.” (He’s pretty thin, and I am not!)

“Would you mind if I didn’t wear anything?” Jake asked.

“You mean, like, skinny dipping? No, I don’t mind.” Then a thought crossed my mind. “Do you mind if I don’t wear a suit as well?” I had been wanting to go skinny dipping for a while, but haven’t had the chance. This was my time.

“Sure! After all, we’re both guys! It isn’t anything we haven’t seen before!” he joked.

I laughed, then untied my trunks, and let them fall, feeling the freedom immediately.

Jake chuckled, then started stripping. Shirt, shoes, socks, pants, then his boxers. We climbed into the water, and swam around for an hour, talking about movies, girls, and typical 19-year-old guy stuff.

Then we got out, dried off, and worked on my story. I’m actually writing this to help with the writers block.

I hope that skinny dipping helped, Kaleb! Thanks for sharing that rather creative solution.
